Then the job of Teaching Assistant Brain & Cognition at the University of Amsterdam is perfect for you as a highly versatile professional. The program group Brain and Cognition (Psychology) of the faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences is looking for two teaching assistants. Our program group facilitates the education in the specialisations ‘Brain and Cognition’ (English) and ‘Clinical Neuropsychology’ (Dutch) as a part of the bachelor Psychology at the UvA. We also teach in the master tracks ‘Brain and Cognition in Society’ and ‘Klinische Neuropsychologie’ (Dutch).

What are you going to do

For the different courses in the bachelor or master courses we are looking for teaching assistants who will assist with different teaching tasks, such as co-coordinating the course (setting up the course in Canvas, communicating with students), facilitating and teaching tutorials, and grading assignments and exams. Depending on your background and the combination of tasks we can also include daily supervising tasks together with our faculty staff during bachelor projects or reviews. The exact combination of tasks will be determent depending on your expertise and the expertise of the other assistants. Besides the teaching tasks we also have an alumni network which includes tasks like maintaining the LinkedIn page and organising an alumni event.

What do you have to offer

We are looking for a flexible candidate in terms of availability in time. So If you are in the final months of studying but are available for two or two and a half days a week, perfect. We are looking for someone who is pro-active, can work independently, and has an idea about education and how to convey information to students in the most optimal way. Preferably you have taken or are currently in the master Brain and Cognition in Society at the UvA, so that you are familiar with our programme and our courses. If you have experience with Canvas (other than the student view) or grading, that would be a plus.
In addition, you have:
  • graduated or almost graduating a relevant master, preferably one of our own masters;
  • knowledge of the different courses;
  • enthusiastic about neuroscience;
  • excellent communication skills and are pro-active, friendly and helpful.

What can we offer you

We offer an employment contract for one year with a probationary period of two months,
preferably starting on 21 August 2023. The employment contract is for 16-19 hours a week
For this position the University Job Classification profile Student assistant or “Onderwijsmedewerker 5” applies.
The salary is €2611 gross per month based on a 38-hour working week, in keeping with salary scale SA,4 or 6.4, as per the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities.
We additionally offer an extensive package of secondary benefits, including 8% holiday allowance and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.

We have two specialized bachelor tracks: Brain and Cognition and Clinical Neuropsychology; and two specialized master tracks: Brain and Cognition in Society and Klinische Neuropsychology. Moreover; we are active within the Research Master Psychology; bachelor Psychobiology (FNWI) and the interdisciplinary Research Master Brain and Cognitive Sciences. The majority of the teaching is in English with the exception of all courses related to Clinical Neuropsychology.
